Jason Statham couldn’t overpower a female-driven musical at the box office

The new action movie “Beekeeper” with Jason Statham could not compete with the female musical at the American box office.

At the end of the four-day weekend, which in the U.S. coincides with a national holiday, “Beekeeper” collected a little more than 20 million dollars. This is not a bad amount for a low-budget project, but not enough to become a box office leader.

Jason Statham plays Adam Clay, a former espionage expert known as The Beekeeper who starts out on a mission of revenge and uncovers a conspiracy against the public. Despite speculation on the web, director David Ayer has vehemently denied that the movie’s concept was inspired by the scandals surrounding Joe and Hunter Biden.

And the top spot went to another adaptation of the popular Broadway musical “Mean Girls,” which grossed $31.5 million.
